We repair and adjust exit devices on commercial doors in Las Vegas, and tell you plainly when a device has reached the end of its useful life.
Common problems we fix
- Panic bar sticks or needs force to release
- Door will not latch, or latches only when slammed
- Bar is loose, bent or rattles
- Outside trim or key cylinder stops working
- Door can be pushed open from outside
- Dogging (hold-open) feature that will not engage or will not release
How this works
Exit devices come in several forms. Rim devices latch onto a strike on the frame. Surface or concealed vertical rod devices latch at the top and bottom of the door and are common on double doors. Mortise devices use a lock body in the door edge. Each shares the same job: retract the latch when the bar is pushed and relatch when the door closes.
Most problems are not the bar itself. They come from a misaligned strike, a door that has dropped, a worn latch, a stiff or failing closer, or a dirty or damaged mechanism. Correcting the underlying cause is what makes the repair last.
Exit devices on fire-rated doors have additional requirements, and some features such as dogging may not be permitted on them. Rules on a given opening are set by your building owner and local code officials, and we will not alter life-safety hardware in a way that conflicts with them.
Common door and hardware configurations
- Rim exit devices on single doors
- Surface and concealed vertical rod devices on pairs of doors
- Mortise exit devices
- Exit devices with outside trim, key cylinders or alarms
Repair or replace?
Many exit devices can be repaired by correcting alignment, replacing a worn latch or strike, or cleaning and adjusting the mechanism. Replacement makes sense when the device is damaged, parts are no longer available or it does not suit the door. We recommend the option that fits your opening.
Signs you need professional service
- More pressure is needed to push the bar than before
- The door stays ajar after use
- The latch does not extend or retract fully
- The trim handle spins or does not retract the latch

Frequently asked questions
Why does my panic bar not release correctly?
Common causes are a misaligned strike, a door that has sagged, a worn latch or a dirty or damaged mechanism. Finding the cause is the first step.
Can you repair exit devices on a pair of doors?
Yes. Vertical rod and rim devices on pairs of doors can be adjusted or repaired, including the latching and the astragal where applicable.
Can you leave a door dogged open?
That depends on the door and its rating. We follow applicable code and will not set up hardware in a way that violates it.
