Vegas Lockmasters rekeys commercial locks in Henderson and Las Vegas, including storefront deadlatches, mortise cylinders, door and cabinet locks, and exit device trim cylinders.
Common problems we fix
- Keys were lost, stolen or never returned
- An employee or contractor with keys has left
- New tenant moving into a suite
- Too many unknown keys are in circulation
- You want several doors to work on one key
- A previous owner or manager still holds keys
How this works
A pin tumbler cylinder holds a set of pins that line up only for the correct key. Rekeying replaces those pins (and often the key) so the cylinder is cut to a new key. Old keys no longer line up and no longer turn the lock. The cylinder, lock body and door preparation are unchanged.
Rekeying can also bring several locks onto one key, called keying alike, which is useful for a suite with multiple doors. It can also be part of a larger key plan with separate keys for different areas. If your building uses a master key system, tell us before work starts so the change fits it.
Not every lock can be rekeyed. A worn, damaged or very old cylinder, or a lock that has been tampered with, may be better replaced. We check the cylinder before deciding.
Common door and hardware configurations
- Mortise cylinders and rim cylinders
- Narrow-stile storefront deadlatch cylinders
- Cylindrical and heavy-duty lever locks
- Exit device trim and outside key cylinders
Repair or replace?
Rekey when the lock is in good condition and your only goal is to change who holds working keys. Replace the lock when it is worn, damaged, no longer matches the security level you need, or cannot be rekeyed. If you want keys that cannot be freely copied, see our high-security lock change service.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between rekeying and changing the lock?
Rekeying changes the key that works in the existing lock. Changing the lock replaces the hardware. Rekeying is usually the more economical choice when the lock is in good shape.
Do old keys still work after rekeying?
No. Once the cylinder is rekeyed, the old keys no longer operate it.
Can you rekey several doors to one key?
Usually yes. Tell us how many doors and what lock types, and we will plan it.
Do you rekey locks at tenant turnover?
Yes. Property managers often rekey between tenants. See our property management page.
