An aluminum storefront door has vertical stiles on each side and rails across the top and bottom. Narrow-stile doors have stiles only a couple of inches wide, which limits what lock and pivot hardware will fit. Medium and wide stile doors accept larger hardware. Glass is held with gaskets or glazing stops, and the door hangs on pivots, hinges or a floor closer.
Heat and sun accelerate wear in vinyl and pile weatherstripping and gaskets, and thermal movement of the frame can slowly change door clearances. Dust and grit gather at thresholds and bottom pivots. Seasonal checks catch most of these before they become failures.
